Portland

My question was....what is Portland?

This was the challenge put forth to Karl & Tam which I think they accepted with great finesse. Whenever we shared our local haunts back home with visitors it was always fascinating to see it through their eyes. Our hope is that it was the same in reverse.

Something we noticed is the number of small pubs and eateries. They appear small but the food and atmosphere looks amazing. We had stopped in Vancouver, WA to gas up and have lunch. We walk into what looked like a small cafe but inside it was a wine shop! You could order wine and the items off the menu were influenced from the Mediterranean. To us it was comparable to All Seasons back home but the prices were better here.

We were fascinated by the number of bridges...I heard the number 13. Wow 😮 and to be given the opportunity to photograph them was so cool. In a way this reminded me of Asakusa. We had taken a boat tour in Japan and the number of bridges there...like wow!

There was a protest going on downtown and we think these guys could have been backup or they were simply practicing

These scooters were everywhere...appears you can download an app and then just hop on and then leave it? Must be more to this

No Karl...you have to sit in it to drive

Some street art...theme was something to do with benches...not for lounging by the looks of it!

Mt. Hood in the background

...another “seat”

Car charging station...Ilka, the car you design...will it be able to charge just anywhere? I haven’t seen any of those Tesla’s you drool over 😉

Cityscapes....so cool

...the largest bookstore ever

Now this place is one of those small bars I mentioned earlier and definitely amazing....we would never have discovered it if it weren’t for Karl & Tam...the Tiki Bar! We definitely got a kickstart for Maui....and this was Happy Hour!

The lighting doesn’t quite show the blue in this Blue Hawaiian...it was sooooo good.

...and then there were these...wonder what the Fire Marshall has to say?

Whenever someone ordered a Volcano...the music changed and the smoke appeared...and it was right behind Brent's ear

We came back to the house and Brent sampled some of Karl’s collection of ryes...the rest of this story I will leave to your imagination 🤪
It was a wonderful day....thank you...and we now have a better sense of what is Portland
